A friend recently asked how I've acquired the eclectic, yet modern style of my interior. She wanted advice on how to give an eclectic touch to her own home.
To me creating an eclectic interior is all about curating a collection of objects from various sources, periods, and ethnicity to create a cohesive and harmonious interior.
Here are my top advices for creating an eclectic interior:
1.Think of your color scheme as the canvas, unifying the different elements you'll add later. I've chosen a neutral color scheme of white, soft greys, black and and dark oak wood, but you can certainly go for bolder colors depending on the look you want. In any interior design I'm a fan of a cohesive color scheme through out the house, but again you know best what you like :-)
2. Eclectic interiors are also about layering. You could go crazy with colors, but I've chosen yellow as my only accent color.

2.Your furniture will give structure to your interior. Don't be afraid to mix modern and old furniture! But keep in mind the basic principles of scale and balance. Use good quality pieces that you'll love for a long time. I much prefer to reupholster old quality furniture rather than continuously buying new cheap ones.

3. Even though creating an eclectic interior gives you freedom to pick the best of everything, you should still keep in mind the principles of design when creating your interior.
4.Source accessories and furniture from artist, nature, flea markets, estate sales, antiques shows, travels, family etc.

5.Take your time. I do not buy alot of stuff, I browse, and carefully select the pieces I truly want.
6.If you get easily tempted create a list of what you are after and keep it with you at all time.
7.Suprise! The element of humor and suprise in an interior is key to creating an interesting interior.

8.Trust your taste! An eclectic interior reflects the curators taste, and can not be copyied.
